Coast to Coast: Summer Bucket List

With two good months left of our favorite season, we want to do everything we can to make the most of our first real, post-grad summers in LA and NYC! We’ve compiled a bucket list of our must-do activities — feel free to copy our ideas and share some of your own:

LOS ANGELES
MALIBU WATERFALL HIKE

AKA Escondido Falls in the Santa Monica Mountains is 3.8 mile roundtrip hike that starts with an uphill hike next to the some of the most gorgeous homes in Malibu, and ends at Escondido Canyon, and a two-tier 200-foot waterfall.

CINESPIA AT THE HOLLYWOOD FOREVER CEMETERY

Every Saturday during the summer you can set up a blanke, bring snacks and drinks, and watch outdoor films at the historic Hollywood Forever Cemetery. On August 15th, Cinespia will be hosting the 4th annual Cinema Under the Stars, showing movies from 9pm to 4am. Here’s what’s on the schedule for the rest of this summer:

July 18th: Grindhouse
July 25th: Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory
Aug. 1st: Apocalypse Now
Aug. 8th: It Happened One Night
Aug. 15th: 4th Annual Movies All Night
Aug. 22nd: Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure
Aug. 29th: The Virgin Suicides

LE JARDIN DAY LOUNGE

Le Jardin just opened this summer and transports you to the South of France when you’re actually in the middle of Cahuenga Blvd. The layout features a garden, outdoor patio with olive trees, fire pits, live music and you can snack from a full French-inspired menu.

EL MATADOR STATE BEACH

Sadly, as a resident of California, I barely ever go to the beach, so this is an absolute must on my list. Just six miles north of Malibu, and half an hour from Santa Monica, El Matador is the perfect distance to feel like you’re really getting away. The beach is smaller and more quiet than most, making it the best spot for relaxing.

NEW YORK CITY
OLD SCHOOL SLUMBER PARTY

Remember those slumber parties you would have when you were 8 or 9? There was a full itinerary for the evening including (but not limited to) spa time (face masks, hair, nails, etc), milkshakes, scavenger hunts, and movies. Game plan: recreate these legendary parties of the past with a couple grown up twists (who says my milkshake can’t be boozy?). The ultimate “treat yo’ self” evening.

CAMPING AT CROTON POINT PARK

Camping has been on my bucket list all summer — I went camping at the end of April and it was still a bit too chilly for my liking. I can’t wait for lake views, s’mores, a roaring campfire, and *hopefully* a sing-a-long or two.

WEEKEND TRIP TO SOUTH HAMPTON

Fortunately my roommate’s family has a cozy little home in South Hampton. Beach, fresh seafood, a couple bottles of wine… you can see where I’m going with this…

SYLVAN ESSO + PORCHES AT CELBRATE BROOKLYN IN PROSPECT PARK

The concerts in Prospect Park are one of my favorite parts of the summer, especially when it’s one of my favorite artists performing AND it’s free! Counting down the days until I get to sing and dance as the sun sets.

FIND THE BEST ROOFTOP FOR DANCING IN THE CITY

Speaking of dancing… rooftops are one of the best parts about New York City in the summertime. And I love to dance. So I’m making this my mission (suggestions and references highly encouraged).
